Macy’s Announces Closure of 14 Locations Across the U.S.
The iconic department store chain Macy’s has revealed plans to shut down 14 of its stores nationwide as it continues to scale back its presence in the United States.
In a statement sent to USA TODAY on January 9, the company explained, “Macy’s, Inc. is advancing its Bold New Chapter initiative, strategically refining its store portfolio to better meet customer needs and foster sustainable growth. These steps enable us to invest further in our core locations and enhance our digital offerings.”
The decision to close stores follows a period of positive sales momentum, most recently reported in December 2025. In a memo from CEO Tony Spring that same month, Macy’s highlighted that its current strategy is yielding tangible results.
“We have achieved significant milestones and remain focused on the challenges ahead,” Spring stated. “Our customers are responding positively, as reflected in strong performance from our ongoing operations, record Net Promoter Scores, and improved outcomes over the past three quarters.”
Below is a list of Macy’s stores scheduled for closure.
