October Housing Permit and Construction Data
In October, the number of privately-owned homes approved through building permits reached a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,412,000. This figure represents a slight decrease of 0.2% compared to the updated September total of 1,415,000, and a 1.1% drop from the October 2024 rate of 1,428,000.
Permits issued for single-family homes stood at 876,000 in October, reflecting a 0.5% decline from September’s revised number of 880,000. Meanwhile, permits for buildings containing five or more units were issued at a rate of 481,000 for the month.
Additionally, the seasonally adjusted annual rate for privately-owned housing starts in October was 1,246,000, marking a 4.6% change (±11.2%).
