“Big Short” and well-known investor Michael Burry: Will not short Meta, Google, and Microsoft

He also stated that he would avoid shorting large tech companies whose business scope far exceeds the field of artificial intelligence, citing Meta, Alphabet (Google’s parent company), and Microsoft as examples. Burry wrote in his column: “If I short Meta, it is equivalent to simultaneously shorting its dominant position in social media and advertising; if I short Alphabet, it is effectively shorting Google’s various search services, the Android operating system, and Waymo’s autonomous driving business, among others; if I short Microsoft, I am shorting the global leader in productivity software as a service. The stocks of these large companies are by no means simply short bets on the field of artificial intelligence.” He pointed out that the above three companies may gradually tighten their spending, absorb losses caused by overcapacity, and may even write down assets, but their dominant positions in their respective core business areas will remain solid. "These three companies will never simply decline," Burry added.
