Lark Davis says Chainlink is "much better" than XRP.
Renowned Bitcoin commentator Lark Davis has joined the ongoing discussion about the long-term rivalry between XRP and Chainlink (LINK).
This occurred during his recent appearance on the Rollup TV cryptocurrency show, where host Andy asked him to share his views on XRP and LINK. In response, Davis said that Chainlink is a “much better” asset than XRP.
He expects Chainlink to surpass XRP over the next decade, but he also acknowledged the strength and enthusiasm of the XRP community.
Why Davis Supports Chainlink
Davis believes that Chainlink’s advantage lies in its central role within the entire crypto industry. He specifically mentioned Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP), describing it as a key piece of infrastructure that enables different blockchains and systems to communicate with each other.
In his view, this allows Chainlink to be widely used across many networks, rather than being limited to a single ecosystem.
He also highlighted Chainlink’s partnerships and recent initiatives in token buybacks. In his opinion, these developments give investors a clearer reason to continue holding the asset, after years of focusing mainly on technology and user growth.
Criticism of the XRP Ecosystem
Turning to XRP, Davis described it as an “island,” with activity mainly confined to its own network. He questioned XRP’s daily user metrics and overall on-chain activity, pointing out that despite the network’s existence for over a decade, it has yet to establish what he considers a strong user base.
However, Davis said he understands why people invest in XRP. He acknowledged the long-term vision advocated by Ripple executives, Brad Garlinghouse and Chris Larsen, and also admitted that if Ripple succeeds in realizing its vision, XRP could still see significant price increases in the future.
Davis also compared the leadership behind the two projects. He praised Chainlink founder Sergey Nazarov, saying his focus on decentralization and infrastructure aligns closely with the core values of cryptocurrency.
In contrast, Davis criticized Ripple’s leadership, claiming they profit from it. Over time, XRP sales have increased significantly, which he considers a negative factor for the asset.
Two Distinct Value Propositions
In summary, Davis believes the discussion is, in his view, a clash between two fundamentally different models. XRP is a closed system betting on large-scale institutional adoption. On the other hand, Chainlink serves as neutral infrastructure, connecting many blockchains and application scenarios.
Therefore, Davis stated that he believes Chainlink is not only better positioned, but also “much better” as a long-term crypto asset, even though he himself does not currently hold LINK.
“Both Sides Can Win”
Unsurprisingly, Davis’s comments have sparked a stir in the crypto community, especially among the XRP Army. Meanwhile, some commentators believe that both assets can win, as they serve different markets.
They point out that XRP mainly serves a payments and liquidity role, while LINK focuses on oracle dominance. In summary, according to community members, Chainlink is used for data transmission, while XRP is used for value transfer.
I can hardly believe I’m saying this.
Chainlink transmits data, XRP transmits value.
