According to Jinse Finance, a group of developers responsible for managing the world’s most popular full node software—Bitcoin Core—still firmly believe that the 2025 “OP_RETURN dispute” has been settled, considering themselves the victors of this conflict, while dismissing dissenters as unserious followers of “country bumpkin leaders.” Their latest mocking gestures include giving the opposing camp a new nickname, “Knotzis,” and ridiculing a minor bug in the Bitcoin node software Knots. Despite the fact that their actual software’s dominance in the Bitcoin network is steadily declining, they remain immersed in the joy of “victory.” In reality, the number of users who have chosen Knots over Bitcoin Core due to opposition to Core’s changes to the OP_RETURN protocol has increased tenfold this year—the number of internet-connected nodes has risen from fewer than 400 to nearly 4,000.
