Trump's 10% tariff policy officially took effect at 12 o'clock Eastern Standard Time
Golden Finance reports that at 0:01 local time on Saturday (12:01 Eastern Time Zone), Trump's 10% tariff on all imported goods to the United States officially took effect, with reciprocal tariffs set to take effect next Wednesday. The benchmark 10% tariff came into force in American ports, airports and customs warehouses, marking Trump's complete abandonment of the post-World War II tariff rate system agreed upon with various parties. Kelly Anne Shaw, a trade advisor in the White House during Trump's first term, said "This is the biggest trade action we've taken in our lives," she expects tariffs will change over time as countries seek negotiations to lower interest rates. "But this is a big deal. It represents a huge and significant shift in how we trade with every country in the world."
