PANews reported on May 15th, according to Reuters, since 2021, El Salvador has successfully mined nearly 474 bitcoins using the geothermal energy provided by the Tecapa Volcano. This has increased the government's bitcoin reserves to 5750 coins, with a total value of nearly $354 million at current prices. El Salvador is the first country in the world to make Bitcoin legal tender, a move that has drawn criticism from institutions such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Currently, out of the 102 megawatts of electricity generated by its geothermal power plants, 1.5 megawatts are used for Bitcoin mining.
