In 2023, 12% of Salvadorans use Bitcoin for shopping
According to the annual survey conducted by Universidad Centroamericana José Simeón Cañas in El Salvador, 12% of the local population used Bitcoin at least once to pay for goods and services last year.
The survey was conducted in December 2023, with home visits made to collect interview data from 1280 respondents.
The majority of people who purchased things with Bitcoin last year only did so one to three times (49.7%), while 20% of people used it ten times or more. The main expenses made with Bitcoin were groceries (22.9%) and supermarkets (20.9%), followed by veterinary clinics (15%).
