U.S. Treasury Sanctions Russian Aeza Group and Its Crypto Wallets, Freezes $350,000 in Assets
According to a report by Cointelegraph cited by Jinse Finance, the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) announced on Tuesday sanctions against Russian “bulletproof hosting” provider Aeza Group, and froze approximately $350,000 in assets held in a crypto wallet associated with the company. Aeza Group is accused of providing specialized servers and IT infrastructure to ransomware operators and information thieves. The sanctions also target several Russian and UK companies, as well as four Russian executives. Blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis stated that the sanctioned Tron blockchain address is Aeza’s management wallet, which handles payments and transfers funds to various crypto exchanges. This move marks a significant step by the U.S. government in cracking down on cybercrime infrastructure.
