Pennsylvania Cryptocurrency Mining Sued Over Pollution Issues
On March 27th, a community environmental group filed a lawsuit against Stronghold Digital Mining Inc (SDIG.O), claiming that the company's bitcoin mining facility in northeastern Pennsylvania uses waste coal and old tires for energy combustion, causing nearby communities to be polluted with dangerous chemicals.
The group, called Save Carbon County, filed the lawsuit in a state court in Philadelphia, also naming Pennsylvania as a defendant. Members of this non-profit organization live near the bitcoin mining facility and are seeking compensation and punitive damages from the company, as well as a court order to stop the state government from allowing further pollution to occur.
